Diamond Comic Distributors released their April 2013 sales charts and market share data Friday morning and in perhaps something of a surprise, DC’s Batman #19 was the bestselling comic book title of the month, over Marvel’s Thanos Rising #1, the second highest-selling title of April.
The Top 10 titles showed more diversity than its has in a while, with Mark Millar’s latest Millarworld launch (through Image Comics) Jupiter’s Legacy #1 coming in a strong third, and with Robert Kirkman’s Image sales juggernaut The Walking Dead scoring an 8th place finish for its 109th issue.

The top selling graphic novel was once again, the first trade paperback volume of The Walking Dead: Days Gone Bye.
Marvel once again ruled both Market Share categories, and for the second consecutive month with considerable margins over DC. Marvel accounted for 41.78% of all Units sold to retailers in April, and 37.95% of all wholesale Dollars spent by retailers were on Marvel product.
DC’s Market Share was 27.72% Unit share and 25.98% Dollar share.
But, again helped by Millar and Kirkman, Image Comics showed once if its strongest months in some time, with 9.87% of Unit market share and 9.04% in Dollar share.
But as has become routine by now, the good, most imporant takeaway news from April’s sales data is overall industry sales were up 14.18% in Dollars versus April 2012, with gains fairly evenly split between comic books and graphic novels.
For the year through April, 2013 is 18.32% in Dollars ahead of 2012.
